Primary Function:

• Assists journey-level welders and maintenance staff with installations, repairs, and preventive maintenance work. Supports the welding team by preparing materials, tools, equipment, and work areas. Performs basic tasks to help maintain equipment operation and extend equipment life.
• Performs routine and entry-level tasks associated with welding and mechanical repair.
• Assists in identifying equipment issues and reports findings to a supervisor or journey worker.
• Supports work on equipment such as fans, pumps, conveyors, pipelines, mobile equipment, pulpers, ripe green separators, tractors, trailers, tanks, gates, trash racks, planting and harvesting equipment, etc.

Examples of Work Performed:

• Follows all safety rules and participates in safety-related activities as directed.
• Assists with preparation of materials, tools, and equipment for welding and maintenance tasks.

• Helps maintain history files, drawings, and other records by providing updated information to journey workers or supervisors.
• Helps read or interpret basic blueprints, sketches, or instructions when laying out work under direction.
• Assists in the installation, repair, and maintenance of company equipment and facilities including mobile/stationary equipment, pipelines, valves, pump stations, conveyors, pulpers, and related coffee factory equipment.
• Helps disassemble equipment, clean parts, and check for visible wear or damage, reporting issues to a journey worker.
• Works with other staff to locate materials, prepare tools, and support job setup and cleanup.
• Assists in constructing simple jigs or fixtures under direction.
• Prepares metal surfaces and materials for welding or fabrication, including cutting, grinding, and cleaning.
• Performs general cleanup of job sites and shop areas to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
• Assists with basic filing, chipping, and fitting on machinery parts as instructed.
• Participates in on-the-job training to develop skills in welding, fabrication, and maintenance techniques.
• May be assigned to assist in other areas of the plantation within this skill level.
• Assists Journey workers with lift and rigging procedures and helps ensure equipment is set up safely.
• Learns proper operation of machine shop fabrication equipment under supervision.
• May be required to obtain and maintain necessary certifications or licenses (e.g., driver’s license

Assists in the use, maintenance, and preparation of tools such as wrenches, squares, hammers, micrometers, calipers, plumb bobs, chain hoists, air hoists, ropes and tackles, dollies, slings, pipe threaders, pneumatic and electric tools, welding and cutting equipment (oxyacetylene, plasma, electric arc), hand tools, gloves, helmets, goggles, wire welding equipment, etc.

Handles and prepares materials including various metals (steel, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper) along with welding rods, fluxes, solder, piping, valves, fittings, sprockets, chains, belting, and other materials required to assist journey workers in assigned tasks.

Works under close to general supervision from a journey worker, lead worker, or supervisor. Receives instructions and guidance on work assignments and seeks clarification as needed to complete tasks safely and correctly.

Direction Exercised:

Does not direct other employees. May provide basic assistance to apprentices or less experienced helpers when assigned
