Job Description

Northwest Youth Corps is seeking young people ages 15-18 interested in working outdoors while making a positive impact on our urban forests.

Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) crew members complete urban forest health projects for five weeks throughout the Tacoma area. Experienced field staff provide training and education on urban forestry projects such as tree planting and maintenance, wildfire protection, and invasive plant management. You join a close-knit team of 8 crew members and two crew leaders, committed to playing a vital role in improving our urban forests and the environment.

This is tough work. We work in all weather and our projects are hands-on. All training is provided, and you do not need prior experience to apply. There is a $200 tuition fee to defray operating expenses; financial aid is available.

Tentative Dates : Session One- June 23- July 25, 2025

Session Two- July 29- August 29,2025

Location: Crews start and end in Tacoma, WA. Crew members are responsible for arriving at the office on time each day (we can provide info on bus and bike routes as needed). Project locations generally include city parks, public lands, and private properties in disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Benefits/Tuition:

• $480 weekly stipend (plus potential bonuses), received at the end of the session
• Potential $20/ week safety bonus

• Up to 2 high school credits with school approval
• All training provided

Qualifications:

• Age 15-18 at the start date
• US citizenship or permanent residency (green card)
• Positive mental attitude, willingness to learn, and a team player
• Desire to conserve natural spaces and make an impact on the environment
• While no experience with these is required, you should be physically and mentally prepared to:
  • Do physical work and be on foot for 8 hours per day
  • Follow safety protocols
