$240,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr

Sr. Director of Research, Development and Innovation is responsible for creating the R&D and innovation strategy for the organization aligned to the corporate plan and vision. While responsible for building a culture of innovation, the Sr. Director will lead the product and packaging development organizations to drive customer focused innovation and cost savings initiatives and will serve as a strong leader internally and externally. The Sr. Director will demonstrate strong leadership and sets clear vision, goals and objectives for the Innovation, Research & Development, Packaging and Sensory Teams.

Job Duties include the following, other duties may be assigned :

  • Leads the team’s innovation process toward the delivery of operational, cost effective, and new products that strongly align with customer needs.
  • Execute R&D strategic plans over the 1–5-year horizon to align with the strategic growth plan.
  • Works collaboratively with cross functional partners (Sales, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance) to ensure the successful development of new products at target costs.
  • Identifies key gaps in structure and works with leadership to recruit, hire, and develop a strong team of leaders to fulfill resource sufficiency plans.
  • Leads and develops talent in teams while developing and directing the strategic framework for the R&D, Sensory, Innovation, Culinary and Brand Maintenance team.
  • Responsible for building credibility quickly with new and existing customer partnerships.
  • Responsible for building a team of high performers across roles that meet and exceed the needs of the business.
  • Align with supply chain and operations to develop and manage supplier engagement process with core supplier partners and key industry and academic partners, to strengthen resources.
  • Maintains current comprehension of emerging trends and customer strategies, identifies unmet/unarticulated customer needs, and identifies product and package solutions to fulfill them.
  • Identifies and executes new technological developments for applications in the food industry relevant to platforms and customers.
  • Demonstrate a cultural fit and how you are aligned with the values of BRF
  • Manage a best-in-class sensory department to support new product development needs for company and strategic customer initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Food Science or similar, and 10+ years of related innovation, R&D, and quality assurance experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in food science leadership role.
  • 10+ years of people management.
  • Experience working in or managing Packaging Research & Development & Culinary preferred.
  • Experience managing sensory teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability :

  • Exhibit strong capability to translate customer and consumer visions into robust solutions that meet the organizations needs from concept development to commercial launch.
  • Strong communicator and thought leader, capability to drive communication demonstrating technical, customer, and consumer expertise internally and externally.
  • Strong food science technical and analytical skills.
  • Aseptic experience is preferred.
  • Ability to lead large team of scientists across product and package development to deliver solutions that meet the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to travel 25+%, a minimum of 12 trips a year.

Computer Skills :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of MS Office and a robust ERP System, preferably SAP.

Language Ability :

Fluency in the English language is required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Location :

Base pay is one part of the total compensation package and is determined within a range. Base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
