Emergency Medical Services Director
Watauga County is accepting applications for the Position of Emergency Medical
Services Director f or Watauga County.
• An employee in this class is responsible for managing a staff of EMS providers that provide 24/7, 365 days operation of emergency medical services response, also developing short-term and long-range plans for personnel, stations, equipment and systems needs for the County.
• Work includes personnel recruitment/retention, budgeting, training of staff and first responders; establishing policies, procedures and standard operating guidelines; and coordination with a broad variety of agencies served and vendors.
• The employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in dealing with personnel matters, coordinating with other law enforcement, rescue, fire jurisdictions, emergency services and responding to emergency situations. Work is performaed under the general supervision of the County Manager or his designee.
• Position meets with federal, state and local officials and others to stay informed on new techniques, equipment and communication systems; responds to emergency incidents to assist in coordination and/or execution of response efforts; and develops and administers EMS Division budget.
• Position will also provide regular updates to County Commissioners regarding services; serves as a member of various professional committees in the County and region; and works closely with Emergency Services to ensure communications, response times, calls and other related reporting of information are accurate.
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to bachelor's degree in EMS, public administration or related field and 10 years of experience in emergency medical services including three (3) years of supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Special requirements for position include valid driver’s license for state of residence, North Carolina Office of EMS Paramedic Certification, National Registry of EMTs Paramedic credential preferred, NC OEMS Level II Instructor preferred, Valid ACLS/PALS/PHTLS credentials (instructor preferred), or ability to obtain. County benefit package includes health insurance, retirement, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
Salary Grade 18:
$90,218 - $110,000 depending on qualifications.
