JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer and direct supervision of the Director of Nursing, The Emergency Department Technician is responsible for direct and indirect patient care as assigned and within their scope of practice. The EDT performs a variety of tasks and activities to meet patient and department needs to include but not limited to transport, participation in planning, data collection, and recognition of changes and communication to other healthcare team members. The Emergency Department Technician must be knowledgeable of supplies, equipment, and instruments in the Emergency Department and perform all duties in accordance with The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. The EDT communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of high school.
Formal Training: Requires documented training on phlebotomy procedures and Glucose testing.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: C.N.A, EMT, or Paramedic certification with the state of Georgia, or Certified Phlebotomist or completion of PCT, CMA, MOA, U.S. Military Medic Program or be currently enrolled in a nursing program at an accredited school and has completed one (1) full semester of clinical rotations. BLS Certification required within 30 days of hire.
Work Experience: One year of recent experience as an emergency medical technician or two years of recent experience in the medical environment, preferably emergency-related field.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Calculator, personal computer, telephone, facsimile machine, paper shredder, copier, printer, some medical equipment such as Glucometer. IV pumps (EMT-1 only). They may also apply topical ointment to wounds as directed by the physician.
