Director of Research and Development - Medical Device

Greater Boston (On-site role)

The Director of R&D Engineering is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing all development and sustaining efforts, including the evolution of the company's breakthrough aesthetic skin technology, refinement of the core platform technology, and development of commercial products from early-stage concepts through aftermarket launch. This role involves partnering with commercial, regulatory, clinical, and operations teams, including supply chain, design transfer from R&D to manufacturing, in-house R&D manufacturing efforts, project management, and external collaborations.

The Director will lead and develop a team of professionals, fostering employee growth, teamwork, and innovation.

Responsibilities:

• Direct mechanical design, hardware, and software development to ensure high-quality innovative products.
• Lead engineering teams to promote a high-performance, results-driven environment, ensuring project timelines are met.
• Collaborate with marketing to develop a strong product pipeline and long-term technology strategies.
• Formulate and implement strategies for emerging technologies and monitor industry trends.
• Lead research and development activities for current products and future innovations.
• Develop test plans and verification activities to support product changes and new launches.
• Coordinate with regulatory and clinical teams on new product strategies and indications.
• Support existing products with sustaining engineering efforts.
• Achieve operational strategic goals, develop business and strategic plans, and ensure organizational effectiveness.
• Engage in strategic thinking, business acumen, and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including KOLs.
• Require a strong understanding of electromechanical engineering principles, product development experience, and a culture of engineering excellence.

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering
• Experience in Medical Devices
• At least 12+ years in R&D and/or Engineering, with 5+ years in Medical Devices
• Proven leadership in device development
• Ability to lead through influence in a matrix environment
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Track record of successful product launches and innovation-driven value creation

Preferred:

• Advanced degree (preferred)
• Specialization in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering
• Experience with Class II / Class III Medical Devices
