Job Description:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Controller to oversee the accounting and financial activities of the organization. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Southwest St. Louis. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional who is comfortable managing day-to-day accounting tasks while also supporting higher-level financial strategy and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage all general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close
• Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
• Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships
• Maintain the accuracy of financial records and ensure compliance with GAAP
• Coordinate with external CPAs for year-end tax filings and audits
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes
• Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to ownership or executive leadership
• Handle payroll processing or work with a third-party provider to ensure timely and accurate payroll
• Assist in software or systems upgrades and process improvements as needed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior experience in a small business or hands-on accounting environment
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms)
• Solid Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, basic data analysis)
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and take full ownership of accounting processes
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• CPA or prior public accounting experience is a plus but not required
