The Hanover County Attorney's Office seeks qualified applicants for an Assistant County Attorney II; however, the position may be filled as an Assistant County Attorney I, depending on candidate qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will assist the County Attorney and Deputy County Attorneys in providing a wide range of legal services to the Board of Supervisors, the School Board, constitutional officers, the Pamunkey Regional Library, and County departments, boards, and agencies. Primary duties will include working with the Department of Social Services; however, the successful candidate will work with a number of County departments. Duties include drafting and reviewing contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents; litigating cases before administrative agencies and state and federal courts; performing legal research; and providing legal advice. An Assistant County Attorney I assists the County Attorney, Deputy County attorneys and Senior Assistant County Attorneys in providing a wide range of legal services to the Board of Supervisors; School Board; school administration county departments, boards and commissions, constitutional officers; and the regional library.
The Assistant County Attorney I reports to the County Attorney and the Deputy County Attorneys. This attorney will work under the direct supervision of senior level attorneys in the office to perform a wide variety of legal tasks for a number of different clients.
Effective legal research and writing skills; ability to organize, interpret and apply legal principles and knowledge to complex legal problems; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials and the general public; good professional judgment.
Strong academic background; Graduation from an accredited school of law and one year or equivalent intern experience required. Must be a member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar or be eligible for admission within two (2) months.
The hiring range for the Assistant County Attorney I begins at $79,589.00 and Assistant County Attorney II begins at $87,384.00 annually.
