Job Description

Leadership, Administration and Strategic Oversight-
Provides overall leadership and direction for all nursing services at IMCC and the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital.
Develops and implements nursing goals, objectives, and standards consistent with Department of Corrections policies, Iowa Administrative Code and DIAL accreditation requirements.
Serves as the chief nursing executive for both facilities.
Leads operational planning, policy development and evaluation of clinical practices.
Collaborates with facility leadership to ensure constitutionally adequate, patient-centered and efficient healthcare delivery.
Oversees nursing operations 24/7 and participates in strategic planning and decision-making at the executive level.

Supervision, Staffing and Workforce Development-
Supervises nurse supervisors, and clinical coordinators responsible for medical and psychiatric units.
Oversees staffing levels, scheduling, and assignments to maintain continuous coverage across intake, medical and forensic units.
Evaluates staff performance, ensures compliance with licensure and competencies, and promotes professional growth through mentoring, training and continuing education.
Leads recruitment and retention initiatives, monitors vacancy trends and develops plans to improve engagement and reduce turnover

Clinical and Operational Oversight-
Directs and monitors day-to-day nursing activities for the IMCC infirmary, specialty clinics, intake and classification process and the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital.
Ensures adherence to evidence-based practices, medication administration protocols and infection prevention standards.
Partners with medical and psychiatric providers on treatment planning, patient triage and complex clinical case review.
Investigates incidents, coordinates corrective actions, and ensures safe and therapeutic environments for staff and patients.

Minimum Qualification Requirements


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and experience equal to four years of full-time supervisory/management nursing experience
OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Nursing and experience equal to two years of full-time progressive nursing supervisory/management experience
OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctorate degree in Nursing
OR
An equivalent combination of the required education and experience, substituting one year of full-time experience for thirty semester hours or equivalent of education; no substitution for four years of full-time supervisory/management experience.
